Construction for the Tarong West Wind Farm near Wondai, Queensland, is set to begin in late 2026 following recent federal environmental approval. This major project is expected to create more than 450 jobs for people in the South Burnett region during the building phase.

On 23 February 2026, Stanwell confirmed it has transferred its option to buy the Tarong West Wind Farm to a private investor. While the project will no longer be owned by the government, the company will remain the primary buyer of the electricity produced by the wind turbines once they are operational.

A 400-person worker camp is proposed for a site on Warren Truss Drive near the Kingaroy Airport to house the construction crew. To help reduce the number of vehicles on local roads, buses will ferry workers from the camp to the main building site at Ironpot.

Residents can expect to see heavy turbine parts being moved along the Bunya Highway and Mannuem Road toward the end of the year. These massive components are part of the main construction effort for the 1.5 billion dollar project.
