On Tuesday, 10 March 2026, Maritime Safety Queensland closed the Mary River in Maryborough, Queensland, to all boats. This emergency action started at 9:30 am after heavy rain caused the river to rise and create strong, dangerous currents.

The closure is intended to keep boat owners and local residents safe while emergency services and utility crews work on the flood response. Officials are asking everyone to stay off the water until the safety order is officially lifted.

The Bureau of Meteorology reported that the river reached minor flood levels, peaking at about 5.6 metres on 10 March 2026. The river will remain closed until water levels drop below 6 metres and conditions are safe for boats to return.

The Fraser Coast Regional Council is managing the local recovery efforts as water levels change. Residents are encouraged to stay away from the riverbanks and follow all posted safety signs during this period.
