The NSW Government and the Australian Government officially started major work on a $720 million upgrade to Richmond Road in Marsden Park, New South Wales, on 23 February 2026. This project aims to fix a major traffic bottleneck by widening the road and building new bridges to handle the growing number of families moving into the north-west area.

A large part of the project involves spending $520 million to widen Richmond Road from four lanes to six between the M7 Motorway and Townson Road. According to Transport for NSW, workers will also build a new flyover bridge from the M7 Motorway off-ramp at Rooty Hill Road North. This new bridge will let drivers move directly onto Richmond Road without having to stop at traffic lights.

About 89,000 vehicles use this road every day, and the government expects the finished work to cut afternoon travel times by more than one-third. The upgrade also includes a new concrete bridge over Bells Creek and a new shared path for people walking or riding bicycles.

Construction contracts for the work were awarded to a Gamuda and DT Infrastructure joint venture, along with the Daracon Group. While the work is being done, Marsden Park commuters may see changed traffic patterns and detours, but the project is expected to create many local construction jobs in the community.
