Families in Kambah and the wider Tuggeranong region in the ACT will lose their only local bowling alley when Zone Bowling closes its doors on Sunday, 3 May 2026. The venue at 76 Cowlishaw Street in Greenway has operated for more than 30 years and is the only tenpin bowling facility in Canberra’s southern suburbs.
The Entertainment and Education Group (TEEG) confirmed the closure follows a dispute over the lease with the building’s new owner. While the new property owner wanted the bowling alley to stay, the company chose not to use an option to extend the lease until 2041.
The owner asked the company to leave the bowling lanes and equipment behind for a new operator, but the company plans to remove everything when they move out. This will make it harder for another business to start a new bowling alley in the same spot without significant investment.
The facility currently offers 24 bowling lanes, more than 45 arcade games, and three rooms for birthday parties. According to Zone Bowling, staff will be offered roles at other locations, such as Belconnen, Woden, and the city centre.
The loss of the site leaves the area without a dedicated indoor centre for group activities and social leagues. This comes at a time when plans for a proposed new ice sports facility in the area remain unconfirmed.
