Seqwater has increased water releases from Somerset Dam into Wivenhoe Dam as of 10 March 2026, following recent rainfall across the dam catchments. These moves are a normal part of managing the dams to balance water levels between the two connected sites.

The water level at Wivenhoe Dam is expected to rise by more than 0.5 metres over the next few days because of the extra water. However, the water authority has confirmed that it does not have any plans to release water from Wivenhoe Dam itself at this time.

The extra water flow is expected to continue throughout the week. Residents are being asked to stay away from deep or fast-moving water downstream of the dams and to be careful around local riverbanks.

Drivers and residents should also check local council resources or the Queensland Traffic website for any changes to road conditions. While no major issues are expected, some low-level crossings or roads can be affected when water levels change in the river system.
