The 23rd annual Somerset Rail Trail Classic will return to Fernvale, Queensland, on Sunday, 12 July 2026, offering residents a chance to take part in one of four walking, running, or cycling challenges.

Organised by the Somerset Regional Council, the event uses the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, which is Australia’s longest recreational rail trail. Participants can choose between a 44km bike ride from Esk to Fernvale, a 20km bike ride from Coominya to Fernvale, an 8km run or walk from Lowood to Fernvale, or a 3km run or walk from Vernor to Fernvale.

Early bird tickets are available for purchase starting 12 April until 10 June 2026. During this time, adult entry is $35, children’s tickets are $15, and family packages are $85. Registration and further details can be found at the official event website.

According to Councillor Brett Freese, who serves as the chair of the Fernvale Sports Park Advisory Committee, the event caters to all fitness levels and ages. The council will donate $2 from every ticket sold to support three local clubs based at the Fernvale Sports Park: the Brisbane Valley Rattlers AFL Club, the Somerset Storm Netball Club, and the Thunder Cricket Club. Last year’s event saw a record 978 participants, and organisers are encouraging the community to help exceed that number this year.

Support for the 2026 event is also provided by local business A&M Civil Contracting, which serves as the platinum sponsor.
