Residents in Fernvale, Queensland, have a new opportunity to support Indigenous-led school programs by volunteering for a national charity. The Indigenous Education Foundation (IEF) is recruiting for a Volunteer Events Coordinator, with recruitment active as of 4 February 2026. The position is advertised as remote, allowing Somerset Region residents to complete administrative and coordination tasks from home while supporting cultural and ecological education programs for Indigenous communities.

The recruitment drive is part of an effort to grow the charity’s reach in regional towns like Fernvale, where engagement with these types of programs has historically been lower than in major cities. The volunteer will organise local events and assist with local fundraising and donor engagement; the role is advertised via volunteer portals such as NSW Volunteering. By having a local contact, the charity hopes to build stronger ties within the community and raise awareness for its self-determination programs.

Indigenous Education Foundation Limited is a registered charity, according to the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). The organisation says its programs are designed and implemented by Indigenous Peoples themselves. Organisers hope to have the new volunteer in place by mid-2026 to help with upcoming fundraising festivals and community gatherings.
