The Lions Club of Fernvale Inc in Queensland is using the success of a global mountain trek to help raise money for local children’s services in 2026. This follow-up comes after an international challenge where a team of 18 women from Lions Clubs around the world travelled to Mount Everest to fund a new school.
In April 2025, the team completed a trek to Everest Base Camp as part of the Kili4Kids initiative. Sheryl Keppler, who is the president of the Australian Online and Travellers Lions Club, was the only Australian chosen to take part. The group aimed to raise $100,000 USD to help rebuild the Shree S.S Sirathauli School in Nepal after it was damaged by earthquakes.
The Fernvale club is now using the momentum from this international achievement to support families closer to home. Local services that benefit from these efforts include Fernvale Community Care, which provides low-cost meals, and consultants from Family Services Australia.
Much of this local work happens at the Fernvale Lions Centre located at 6 Clive Street. The centre serves as a main hub for community support programs and school initiatives throughout the Somerset region.
