The Fernvale Lions Club is calling for new volunteers to help support local projects as the organisation seeks to bolster its presence in the community. Residents interested in assisting with fundraising, events, and various service projects are encouraged to join the group, which operates out of the Fernvale Lions Centre at 6 Clive Street.

Membership is open to all community members, and the group offers a way for locals to provide service or raise money for community initiatives. The club is part of Lions Clubs Australia, the largest service club organisation in the country. A key promise of the organisation is that 100 per cent of all funds donated by the public through their fundraising efforts are directed straight to the intended projects.

The Fernvale Lions Centre, which houses the club, occupies the 1894 former Uniting Church building and hall. The facility was officially opened in its current form on 2 March 2019 by Shayne Neumann, the Federal Member for Blair. Beyond hosting club activities, the space serves the broader town by accommodating local groups and providing a base for Family Services Australia to hold community support consultations.

This recruitment effort comes as many traditional volunteer organisations across Australia navigate declining membership trends. Over the past 15 years, Lions Australia has seen a drop in member numbers, a trend echoed across other service groups nationwide. In Fernvale, a town of 3,629 people located about 60 kilometres west of Brisbane, the club remains a fixture among various community groups, including the Fernvale Women’s Group, the Fernvale Social Club, and local Neighbourhood Watch chapters.

Those interested in learning more about volunteering can contact the club at 0421 606 559 or reach out via email at fernvalelions@gmail.com. More information about the organisation can also be found at DoSomething Near You.
