Residents in the Somerset region of Queensland can now access free legal document signing services at libraries in Lowood and Kilcoy. Starting this week, Justice of the Peace volunteers will be available to help locals with paperwork like affidavits and certified copies without needing to travel to bigger cities.

The Somerset Regional Council added these sessions to its library calendar following requests from the community. Starting Wednesday, 11 February, 2026, a volunteer will be at the Lowood Library on 1 Michel Street. The service at Kilcoy Library on Kennedy Street begins on Friday, 13 February, 2026.

These volunteers are part of the JPs in the Community program and provide their time for free. They can witness signatures on statutory declarations, certify original documents, and help with land title papers.

Mayor Jason Wendt said the council is looking at ways to make facilities better serve the daily needs of residents during what he described as a year of change and growth for the region. While these volunteers can witness documents, they are not allowed to provide legal advice to the public.
