A 21-year-old woman is in a critical condition with serious head injuries after an alleged hit-and-run on James Street in Glenreagh, New South Wales. The incident happened at approximately 11:40 pm on Saturday, 21 March 2026, when the woman was struck by an SUV that did not stop to help.

According to the NSW Police, a 17-year-old boy was arrested at a house on the same street the following morning. Officers from the Coffs/Clarence Police District took the teenager to the police station where he was charged with five offences, including dangerous driving and failing to stop after a crash that caused serious harm.

The teenager was also charged for driving as a learner without being accompanied by a supervisor. He was refused bail and appeared in a children’s court on 23 March 2026. The woman remains in hospital while police continue to investigate the crash in the small town, which is home to about 560 people.

This incident follows a difficult year for road safety in the region, as the Mid North Coast recorded the highest road toll in the state during 2025 with 19 deaths. Local police are now urging anyone who might have seen the crash or who has dashcam footage from the night to contact Crime Stoppers.
