A non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence, homelessness, and unemployment has officially opened its new permanent home in Cardiff. Known as the Survivor’s R Us Incorporated Community Hub, the facility at 52A Pendlebury Road is located directly across from the organisation’s previous premises.
The new hub was celebrated on Thursday, 2 April 2026, marking a significant milestone for the charity. Founded in March 2017 by Ann-Maria Martin, a survivor of domestic violence, the organisation has spent the past nine years assisting more than 130,000 people. The move to a permanent building provides the stability needed to continue these services, which include free professional counselling, an op-shop, and a discount food warehouse known as The Pantry.
The facility was secured following a $2.8 million grant from the Federal Government, a commitment supported by Federal Member for Shortland Pat Conroy. This funding has been essential for the charity, which has seen a 400 per cent increase in residents seeking food assistance during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. According to Greg Piper, the Independent Member for Lake Macquarie, over 220 volunteers worked over three months to transform the building into a functioning community space.
The opening ceremony also served as a personal celebration for Ms Martin, who recently marked nine years cancer-free. The organisation remains supported by a dedicated volunteer team, now numbering over 110, who manage daily operations and assist community members in need regardless of their background.
