The City of Coffs Harbour in New South Wales has released a $30 million Jetty Strip Upgrade plan to improve traffic and street designs. The proposal, which was officially made public in March 2026, aims to create a better connection between the city centre and the beach.
The project features a major change to Harbour Drive, which will be straightened into a boulevard-style street to make it more friendly for people walking and driving. A new set of traffic lights will also be installed at the intersection of Harbour Drive, Marina Drive, and Orlando Street.
To fund part of the work, the council plans to charge fees on new building developments in the local area. New homes or lots in the Jetty Precinct would be charged about $6,000, while most other new developments across the city would pay roughly $750, excluding the Northern Beaches area.
These developer fees are expected to raise about $7.6 million, covering roughly 25 per cent of the total project cost. The council will need to find other ways to pay for the remaining 74.5 per cent of the $30 million budget through different funding sources.
Residents have 42 days to provide feedback on the draft plan after the council voted to start the public consultation on 26 February 2026. This period allows the community to share their views on the scale and design of the precinct before any final decisions are made.
