Canterbury-Bankstown Council (CBCity) is inviting residents to comment on the final concept design for the central courtyard at the Chester Hill Library and Knowledge Centre in Chester Hill, New South Wales. The council has released plans aimed at turning the outdoor area into a comfortable “outdoor room” for reading and community meetings.
The project follows the removal of a large Fraxinus ‘Raywood’ (Claret Ash) tree on 26 August 2022 after it was found to be diseased and at higher risk of branch failure. Following underground remediation works completed in 2023, the courtyard has lacked its former canopy; the concept design includes permanent shade structures and modern seating to make the space usable again for visitors.
The proposed upgrades also prioritise improved accessibility — making it easier for people using wheelchairs or prams to move around the area. Council materials say these changes are intended to benefit local families and community groups that hire the library facilities for workshops and events.
Residents can view the plans and provide feedback via the council’s Have Your Say portal (Chester Hill Library central courtyard) and in person at Chester Hill Library, 12 Chester Hill Road. Feedback may also be submitted by email or post.
