The City of Canterbury Bankstown has finished collecting community feedback on a major plan to rebuild the Chester Square shopping centre in Chester Hill, New South Wales. The public exhibition period for the project ended on 2 February 2026, and council staff are now reviewing the comments sent in by local residents.

The proposal for the site at 1 Leicester Street includes building approximately 515 new apartments across six different buildings. The developer, Holdmark Group, is seeking to change local building rules to allow for towers reaching heights of up to 60 metres, which is about 18 storeys high.

As part of a legal agreement for the project, the developer has offered to provide several benefits for the local community. These include building a new 2,000-square-metre community facility and a 2,800-square-metre public plaza, as well as setting aside three per cent of the residential space for affordable housing.

The project also includes plans for road improvements to help manage the extra residents and shoppers in the area. This involves installing new traffic lights at the corner of Waldron Road and Priam Street, which will require final approval from Transport for NSW.

A final report on the Planning Proposal and the feedback received from the community is expected to be presented to the council later in 2026. This report will help determine the next steps for the redevelopment and how the new community facilities will be delivered.
