The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a forecast for Chester Hill, New South Wales, warning residents to prepare for a mix of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and extreme sun exposure starting Wednesday, 25 February, 2026. The update indicates that the community will see a sharp change in weather conditions over 48 hours, moving from high heat to significant rainfall.

On Wednesday evening, there is a medium chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms as temperatures reach a high of 31°C. By Thursday, 26 February, 2026, the temperature is expected to drop to 24°C with an 80 per cent chance of rain and possible totals of up to 20mm. Local households and outdoor workers are advised to plan for wet commutes and potential lightning during this time.

Despite the expected cloud cover and rain on Thursday, ultraviolet (UV) levels are forecast to reach an extreme rating of 11. According to the Cancer Council Australia, sun protection is necessary whenever the UV index is 3 or higher. Health authorities recommend staying protected between 9:20 am and 5:00 pm, as skin damage can occur quickly even when it is cloudy or cool.

This volatile weather is common for the region, as Bankstown weather records show that February is typically one of the wettest months of the year. Residents are encouraged to check for live weather warnings before heading outdoors and to remain cautious of changing conditions throughout the week.
