The Redland City Council has released its latest water quality findings for the 2024-25 year, confirming that the local drinking supply in Birkdale, Queensland, met all major health standards. The report, which was prepared by bulk water supplier Seqwater, covers testing results from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.

Testing teams conducted more than 99,000 checks across the regional water network to ensure the supply remained safe for residents. While one isolated health concern was found at the Capalaba treatment plant after heavy rain, the report confirmed the system complied with all microbiological safety rules during the year.

Homes in the area receive their water from local reservoirs, specifically the Alexandra Hills Reservoir. This local network is part of a larger distribution system managed by the council to provide consistent service to Birkdale households.

The council also provided advice for common household issues like discoloured water or a chlorine taste. Residents are encouraged to flush their outside tap for a few minutes if the water looks unusual and should avoid using washing machines until the water runs clear.

To reduce potential lead exposure from older household plumbing, enHealth suggests using only cold taps for cooking and drinking. If residents notice unusual smells or colours that do not clear quickly, they can contact the Redland City Council on 07 3829 8999.
