The NSW Government has announced a new 13.8-kilometre walking and cycling path that will run through Dulwich Hill, New South Wales, providing a safer way for people to travel between Bankstown and Sydenham. This project, known as the MetroWay, will follow the route of the new Southwest Metro rail line and is designed to make local travel easier and faster for residents.

The new path will connect with the existing six-kilometre GreenWay at Dulwich Hill, allowing people to walk or ride all the way from Iron Cove to Bankstown on a single continuous route. As part of the upgrade, a new 1,200-square-metre public plaza at Dulwich Hill Station officially opened on 16 February 2026. According to Sydney Metro, this plaza will serve as a central hub where the new path meets the GreenWay corridor.

While work to turn the old train line into a metro system is 90 per cent finished and services are expected to start in late 2026, the full walking and cycling path will take longer to complete. The contract to build the path opened for bids on 17 February 2026, and the entire route is expected to be finished by the end of 2028. Once finished, the path will include lighting, new plants, rest areas, and public art to make the journey more comfortable for users.

The project aims to help locals get around without needing a car, which is expected to help reduce traffic as the area grows. By linking different parts of the Inner West and Southwest Sydney, the path will provide a direct connection for commuters heading to the new metro station or the nearby Bay Run.
